Last year, when i was coming to Czech Republic from Turkey for the first time, everyone was asking me if Czech Republic is a cheap country to live or not. Of course it is not easy to answer this question because of numerous variables, but in simple words i can say that if you compare the product prices with other EU countries such as France, Germany, Spain etc., yes Czech Republic is much more cheaper.
In Czech Republic you can find lots of supermarket chains such as Tesco, Kaufland, Billa, Albert, Lidl, Jednota, Plus, Interspar, Terno and many others. As i witnessed, Tesco has the best prices all the year. But this shouldn’t mean that you should prefer Tesco all the time. You should always follow the sales and the special discounts of other chains.
I prefer Billa generally because of it’s closeness to my dormitory. Billa has higher prices when you compare it with other chains. I think they have such high price strategy, because of their well located shops across the country. If you do not have a car and if Tesco is far away from your home, Billa can be your best choice.
Below, I prepared a table where you can find some products with their 1Lt or 1Kg prices. I used this Lt or Kg method because the packed weight of the products differs from one country to another.
